Mechanical Design Engineer

PLITEK is currently recruiting for Mechanical/Design Engineer to design new custom machines and improve existing machines installed at our customers’ production lines. Develop machine prototypes for testing, verifying, and validating. Create and manage documentation related to the design and development processes in an ISO 9001 and 13485 business management system. Provide input to the sales and quoting team members for new machines, retrofits, and spare parts. Collaborate with the Plitek team, combining their ideas to develop custom designs which satisfy customers’ needs. Support converting engineering team with verification and validation of non-equipment products as required. Domestic and International travel is required for this position. Remote work is not available.

Key Skill & Responsibilities

  • Integrate performance, safety, patents, goals, and regulatory requirements when designing products or systems.
  • Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of design effort.
  • Create 3D models and detail drawings for designs.
  • Create pneumatic schematics.
  • Oversee creation of wiring schematics.
  • Oversee PLC and HMI programming to ensure machine operates safely and meets the design inputs and outputs.
  • Make changes and corrections in the mechanical design throughout the life of the product.
  • Calculate cost estimates for final machine designs.
  • Conduct design review meetings and record the minutes.
  • Record data related to the design cycle in the Company’s business management system.
  • Travel to customer sites for installation and support of machines.
  • Travel to customer sites to train on PLITEK machine installations.
  • Support Plitek’s capital equipment and fixed assets.

Competencies

  • Engineering Design.
  • SolidWorks 3D modeling.
  • 2D detail drawings.
  • Able to interpret Engineering Drawings.
  • Ability to Read Electrical & Pneumatic Schematics.
  • Understands machining, CNC mills, mills, lathes, surface grinders.
  • PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Unironic).
  • CAD/CAM programming for CNC milling center (Haas).
  • Strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineer, or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Mechanical Design: 4-5 years (Preferred)
  • 3 years of technical experience in design and fabrication of machines may be considered in lieu of degree.
