PLITEK® Delivers Millions of Plastic Face Shields

In 2020, as hospitals and emergency departments ran low on personal protection equipment (PPE) such as visors, a number of large manufacturers turned to PLITEK® for help. The process of manufacturing visors wasn’t the challenge. Producing them at such a high volume within a a short period of time was. We needed to alter our converting process, as well as find a way to acquire the necessary raw materials, considered “gold” in the midst of a pandemic.

We started manufacturing with an initial prototyping process, using laser and digital die cutting capabilities. Once the prototype was established, rotary and steel rule die cutting was utilized to produce millions of face shields.

While developing the process, we established a supply chain to secure the required raw materials, working with vendors and selecting the most suitable / available materials.

Next, we realigned the workforce for 24-hour shifts, ensuring that high quality and safety standards would be maintained.

It is one thing to meet a manufacturing challenge. It’s quite another when the implications are as profound as this one. It’s why this project has instilled a deeper sense of purpose among the PLITEK® team. We’re proud and grateful for delivering impressive results for such a great cause.

Extensive converting capacity is one reason a global auto company tasked us to manufacture and ship four million PPE plastic shields as part of the U.S. government’s program to fast-track essential medical equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To meet the challenge, our employees realigned the workforce to ensure our quality and safety standards would be met throughout this project while instilling a deeper sense of purpose among our team members.
